Lochaber Archaeological Society was asked to record the old Ice House found next to Achnacarry House buried in the rododendrums.
We spent the day recording and photographing the structure.
It is possible that this old ice house may be part of the old Achnacarry House burnt down after the 45 rebellion.
In 2009 work was carried without anyone knowing work was to be done on the foreshore of the Old Fort in Fort William. After receiving many calls we went down to try and stop the work and a call was made to the Highland Council. By the time the work was stopped and the site cleared and a lot of archaeology was lost including stone from the walls. These images of that day in May 2009.
This is a project we did in 2012 where we spent a weekend recording an Ice House at Tirindrish House, Spean Bridge. We uncovered the floor and found one round of live .303 round. During WW2 Home Guards used the ice house for storing ammunition, it has never been used since and was covered over.
